BEFORE the former Copper Dog pub at Leece makes way for housing, we are taking a look at the story behind the pints.

The former Queens on Hard Knotts Lane hasn’t served a customer for six years.

In May 1991 The Mail described how Christine and Colin Todd transformed the games room at the Queens each week into a dining room for use from Fridays to Sundays.

Christine said: “The pub never did food until we came.

“We decided to convert the games room into a dining room, adding pictures and ornaments and serve meals at the weekend.”

November 2012 saw James Lancaster busy converting the Copper Dog into a new pub to be called Platform.

After it closed, there was community campaign to prevent the pub being demolished for housing and in December 2014 MP John Woodcock accepted a petition.

Among supporters at the event was Roxie, a descendant of the dog which inspired the pub name Copper Dog.
