Author: Ian Tyler at his former Keswick Mining Museum. He has turned to the RAF for his latest book
MINES researcher Ian Tyler has put his years of exploring the County's fells to good use in a new book on the Second World War role of the RAF in Cumbria, Galloway and North Lancashire.
Mr Tyler, who for many years ran a mining museum in Keswick, has turned his attention to the people and places which saw air crews trained for war.
His 656-page work is currently with the printers and features everything from crashes by inexperienced crews to the birth of the RAF Mountain Rescue at the Haverigg airfield called RAF Millom.
The book has taken six years to complete and has more than 500 images, plus airfield plans.
