10 YEARS AGO

AN elevated walkway costing £360,000 was planned to help nature lovers to enjoy the sights and sounds of Cavendish Dock, near Salthouse Mills, Barrow.

Work was about to start on a £500,000 regeneration scheme at County Square, Ulverston. The project would last around 12 weeks.

A semi-detached house at Dalton Lane, Barrow, was offered for sale at £155,000. Another semi at French Street, Walney, was £145,000.

There were plans to turn Ulverston's Roxy cinema into a nightspot and arts centre.

25 YEARS AGO

A terraced house at Risedale Road, Barrow, was offered for sale at £39,950. A semi-detached house at Bay View Grove, Barrow, was £34,950.

Building materials worker Ronnie Kilburn, of Ainslie Street, Barrow, received an award to mark 25 years with ARC Northern from managing director John Hopkins. Mr Kilburn had started work at the firm's ready-mix concrete plant at Goldmire quarry as a driver and later became a foreman and batcher.

Visiting artists John and Alice Voogd presented an exhibition called Earth, Air, Fire and Water at Barrow's Forum 28.

Barrow traders were predicting a bumper 1994 for the town after an early January spending spree by Furness shoppers.

50 YEARS AGO

Thirty parents in Ireleth sent a petition to Dalton road safety committee calling for improvements to make roads safer for children going to school on dark mornings.

You could earn £13.40 per week at a Barrow bus conductor.

The working week was 40 hours for Barrow Corporation Transport.
