CHILDREN probably outnumbered adult shoppers at a Barrow supermarket back in 1996 for the official launch of a new club for fans of Walt Disney movies.

The Mail, on Tuesday, September 24, noted: "Hundreds of youngsters came face-to-face with their film heroes as the stars of Disney's latest movie visited Barrow.

"Quasimodo and Esmeralda, characters from the Hunchback of Notre Dame flew in specially from EuroDisney to help launch a new club for children at Asda.

"Hundreds of balloons were launched to mark the occasion.

"As well as the Disney duo, face painting and a Punch and Judy show helped entertain the excited crowd."

Among those who got to meet Quasimodo and Esmeralda were Disney fans Ivory Bella and Rebecca Winward.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame film was an animated musical based on the 1831 novel by Victor Hugo.

Among the voice cast was Demi Moore and Kevin Kline and the movie grossed $325m dollars worldwide.
