A SPECIAL exhibition of model submarines and a Royal Navy simulator giving a taste of life as a submariner attracted more than 1,000 people to Barrow Dock Museum in 1999.
The Mail, on Tuesday, November 30, noted: "The exhibition was organised by the crew of the Trident submarine HMS Vengeance to mark its commissioning into the Royal Navy.
"It included models of the Royal Navy submarines of the past, including the first nuclear sub Dreadnought and the Barrow-built Polaris submarine Resolution."
The exhibition included films, talks and display panels explaining the role of the navy's nuclear submarines.
Also popular was the Royal Navy's mobile submarine simulator which was in the grounds of the museum.
The event attracted a total of 1,350 people and museum operations manager Rachel Litten said: "It was a very popular exhibition."
