Mums took a taste challenge in 1994 and went back to Askam Village School to try out the school dinners.
The Mail, on November 11, recorded the fun as part of events held in National School Meals Week.
Visiting mums paid the same 90p as the youngsters.
Susan Miller, whose son Liam, had regular school dinners said: “By the time you pack sandwiches, chocolate, biscuits, yoghurt and the sort of things kids love to eat you probably end up paying far more than the cost of a school dinner.”
Headteacher, Myron Hrynknow said: “A high percentage of pupils have unhealthy, expensive, poorly-packed lunchboxes."
Only two children at the school went home for their lunch.
