A BARROW school started fundraising for a computer 23 years ago by staging a fashion show with the pupils becoming catwalk models for the day.

Wide-brimmed hats, sporty sweatshirts, colourful dresses and leggings all featured at the event with 15 of the pupils taking a starring role.

The Mail on March 20 in 1995 noted: "Children from St Pius X School, Barrow, took to the catwalk to display the latest clothes for kids during a recent school fashion show.

"Fashions on display were not as bizarre as those seen on the backs of Naomi Campbell and other supermodels on the catwalks of Paris.

"In fact, the clothes were from major stores and won by the children in the show to raise £140 for school funds.

"The cash will go towards a computer for the the school."

The article noted: "In general the clothes have a sporty look for the boys with baggy, flowing ideas for the girls to wear."
