BACK in 1995, the pathways around a Barrow reservoir were busy with youngsters finding out about water and researching the plants, birds and other creatures they could find.
Youngsters were able to explore the wildlife site in comfort, and record features such as old iron water valves, thanks to a major landscaping scheme at the site.
The Mail, on September 22, noted: "Children from St Pius X RC School in Barrow took a trip to Ormsgill reservoir for a class project on water.
"The old pool once supplied water to the Barrow Steelworks but is now a quiet haven for wildlife.
"Recently the banks were landscaped with new footpaths, trees and benches.
"The children explored, fed the ducks, made drawings and recorded their thoughts."
There used to an adjoining second reservoir which has since been filled in and converted to sports pitches and changing rooms.
