CONISTON, SEATHWAITE, DUNNERDALE AND TORVER HIGH COMMON
R H F Le Fleming (Rydal Estate) has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for consent under section 38 of the Commons Act 2006 to carry out restricted works on Coniston, Dunnerdale, Seathwaite Fells and Torver High Common. The Planning Inspectorate will decide the application on behalf of the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. The proposed works are: Construction of a 58 bay pay and display car park on Little Arrow Moor. Heras fencing enclosing two areas of approximately 413.75m2 and 1146.98m2 (but not at the same time) will be required to protect the public during the construction phase of the project, restricting access for approximately three months. The works will be located in the far eastern corner of the common, immediately adjacent of the Coniston Fell Gate where the adopted highway meets the bridleway. The Car park will be open seven days a week and constructed using local stone with parking spaces demarked by half round timbers set into the ground. A grass bund will form the boundary of the site. A dry stone wall approx. 2ft tall will separate the pond on the site from the car park.
