Condolences to all the Smith Mitchell family. Your Father was a true Gentleman who passionately cared about his patients and his profession. First met him as a student nurse, he showed how much he cared by his sheer presence in their care on a daily basis. Later I became his patient and meeting him again was a joy, he couldn’t wave a magic wand and cure me but always thought he would if he could! The last time I saw him he hugged me - I realise now why he did! Heartbroken, words cannot describe. So grateful for the chance to wave goodbye.

Dr Mitchell a kind, compassionate, caring man, someone I also call a friend. You will surely be missed. Not sure what I will do without your knowlege, expertise and care on admissions now. Take a well earned rest. ❤️

Devastated to hear about Bill. Can’t believe that he has gone. I am sure that myself and many many others would like the family to know what an amazing doctor he was. There at my life-changing diagnosis (“we’ll get you right lass”) and throughout this horrible journey he has constantly supported me, listened to me and given me the best treatment and advice available at the time. I will never forget his compassion, his ability to connect and even ‘hug’ when necessary. I will miss him. Sending so much love to his family and especially to his grandchildren, whom he talked about often and obviously loved so much. RIP Bill it has been an honour and privilege to know you.
