ROTHNIE Douglas William Passed away peacefully at Furness General Hospital on 3rd February 2021, aged 90 years. Dear husband of the late Edel and much loved father of Peter, Vibi and Anna. A former GP at the Hartington Street Surgery and Obstetrician at Risedale Maternity Hospital and FGH. A good friend to many, he will be greatly missed. A private service will take place. Donations if so desired are to the Bay Hospitals Charity for the Maternity Unit at Furness General Hospital. All enquiries to George Hall & Son, 9-11 Buccleuch Street, Barrow, Tel. 01229 820514.

So sad to find that Dr Rothnie had died. He brought my daughter into the world on very early Christmas morning. I apologised for getting him out on such a day, but ever the gentleman he said it was a pleasure. My late hubby and I were friends too and I always passed the time of day if I saw him. R.I.P.

Dr Rothnie was a lovely gentle man. He had a wonderful manner with his patients and I am very sad to hear of his passing.

Dr Rothnie was my doctor for a good few years when i was in my late 20s. A lovely man and was very good with me. I cant say any doctors i have had since have come near to his qualities. RIP and condolences to your family.

We are so very sorry to hear this sad news.
Doctor rothnie was a truly caring & considerate gentleman who took pride in helping his patients he was a pleasure to speak to.
One day he asked what my accent was,,I said Manx, we then talked about him sailing his yacht to Ramsey ( my hometown) each year to go to watch the tt & he told me of his old motorbike not sure if it was a Douglas sorry if that's wrong as it was a good number of years ago now but we then alked about the pubs in Ramsey & realised we must have been alongside each other so often it was lovely being sat chatting to such a homely, caring gentleman.
Our sympathy to all of doctor rothnie family he was a lovely gentleman

I’m sad to hear of the death of a clever doctor. He was a good friend with a great sense of humour when I worked with him at Risedale Hospital. Condolences to his family.
