Dalton with Newton Town Council have been selling purple poppies ahead of this year's Remembrance weekend.
The variation on the traditional design is done to commemorate the sacrifices of the animals drafted into service to support the war effort.
Animals such as dogs, horses and pigeons played a large part in assisting the army towards victory.
Those who opt to wear the purple poppy believe that the sacrifice of the animals should be held in the same regard as human service.
The poppies are available to buy from the Town Hall on Station Road, with a suggested donation of £1.30.
The money raised will be going to Spana, The Donkey Sanctuary, Furness Animal Welfare and Bardsea Bird Sanctuary.
