A British Folk icon will perform in Kendal for the first time ever.
Matt Deighton is an iconic solo folk musician; he was the vocalist for Mother Earth and is the subject of the Sky Arts documentary 'Overshadowed'.
On December 7 he is bringing his impressive discography to Brewery Arts, Kendal to perform some classic musical masterpieces.
Deighton began making a name for himself in the nineties as the guitarist and vocalist in the popular acid jazz band, Mother Earth.
He then began work on more folk-style solo music in 1995, before beginning his solo journey which now spans six albums.
Following his time with the band, Deighton toured as a guitarist with Paul Weller, and joined Oasis as Noel Gallagher’s temporary replacement on their world tour in 2001.
Overshadowed is a 2019 documentary focused on looking into Deighton’s career, journey, and his time away from performing.
Deighton came back to music in 2018 with his sixth album, ‘Doubtless Dauntless’ and now returns to the stage on his UK tour, playing to Brewery Arts for the first time.
Deighton said: “Expect some stripped-down familiar songs and some new ones from next year’s album.”
“I haven’t played in the Lake District ever, so it’ll be special for me as my heart is in the countryside the hills.”
Scottish singer-songwriter Samantha Whates will be support for Deighton’s show, she is a hugely respected figure on the London folk and roots scene.
Her debut album Dark Nights Make For Brighter Days enjoyed critical acclaim and extensive radio play and Samantha has recently signed to Rough Trade Records with her new band PicaPica.
Matt Deighton and Samantha Whates will be singing at Brewery Arts in Kendal on December 7 at 7.30pm.
