ULVERSTON'S unique tribute to late pop superstar David Bowie arrives in the form of a special event at the Laurel and Hardy Museum.

The Rebel Rebel disco night takes place on Saturday January 28, featuring Bowie makeovers and the best music from everyone’s favourite Space Oddity.

Event organiser Zosia Wand says: "We hope people will feel moved to go the full Bowie and dress-up to channel their favourite Bowie persona.

"But we also have professional hair and make-up should people wish to vamp-up on arrival or switch through the night. The less flamboyant can just enjoy watching the transformations."

There will be a Bowie Lookalike competition on the night, and Ulverston’s masters of disguise Bunny and Chip will be offering full-glitter Ziggy Stardust makeovers. The pair otherwise known as Rachael Weaver of Two by Two and Sara Charlesworth of the Tinners Rabbit Framers are well- known for their fast face art as regulars at Kendal’s Comic Art Festival.

David Clancy, of Helen Gee's salon, will be on hand to create some extraordinary styles, and photographer Lindsay Ward will capture the moment at her photo booth, with some of the best images projected on a large screen.

There will also be a complimentary "Bowie cocktail" and a two-part quiz led by master of Bowie trivia John Hall.

Zosia continues: "DJ Pete Balmer will be playing the best of Bowie's music and those artists inspired by him.

"We also have Major Tom space-hopper racing, free sweets and there may even be some acoustic covers of Bowie numbers with an open mic. It’s a full on night of music and mayhem not to be missed - what could be better to cheer-up the grey end of January?"

The Rebel Rebel night gets under way at 8pm, and tickets are available in advance from the Laurel & Hardy Museum, and Two By Two, in Ulverston.
