A LIVE music event will take place in South Cumbria next month as part of a charity fundraising campaign.

Acts such as Bag of Spanners, The Degenerate Art Show, The Bluegrass Project and Chrissie Bentley will take to the stage at Ulverston Sports Club on Friday April 28, in a bid to raise money for Parkinson's UK.

Rebecca Fairclough, 29, from Ulverston, has organised the event following her father's diagnosis with the disease.

She says: "Since my Dad, Steve, was diagnosed on Christmas Eve 2014, I have begun fundraising for the charity as I wish to contribute to research which will find a cure for the condition.

"To date I have raised nearly £950 through sponsored activities, including abseiling 165 ft off the iconic Forth Rail Bridge in Scotland.

"This year I aim to keep my fundraising feet firmly on the ground and with the help of my friends, we have organised a charity gig, which will showcase some of the great local musical talents we have in and around Ulverston, and there will also be a raffle held on the night, which has some amazing prizes up for grabs, kindly donated by local businesses.

"Special thanks go to Dan Payne for helping me to arrange this event."

Paul Jackson-Clark, director of fundraising at Parkinson’s UK, adds: "I’d like to thank Rebecca for hosting a Party for Parkinson’s, which is a really fun way to fundraise for us. I hope Rebecca’s story will inspire others to sign up to host their own party.

"As the UK’s Parkinson’s support and research charity we’re leading the work to find a cure, and we’re closer than ever. But our work is dependent on donations."

The funds raised by Party for Parkinson’s will allow Parkinson’s UK to continue with its vital research work to find a cure, and improve the lives of the 127,000 people living in the UK who are affected by Parkinson’s.

The charity concert at Ulverston Sports Club, in Priory Road, gets under way at 7pm, and tickets priced £5 are available on the door, or in advance via www.justgiving.com/parkinsonsgig

All proceeds will be donated to Parkinson's UK. For more information on hosting your own Party for Parkinson’s visit www.parkinsons.org.uk/party or email fundraising@parkinsons.org.uk
