JAPANESE Film Week comes to Cumbria with a series of special screenings set to take place next month.
Film fans can experience a unique taste of Japanese culture in Kendal, when the Brewery Arts Centre presents cutting-edge Japanese films, never before seen UK cinemas, from Friday March 10 to Saturday 18.
The event is part of the Japan Foundation’s touring film programme, which will see The Brewery join a select group of only 15 cinemas across the UK to host the special screenings, which include:
- A Stitch of Life (Friday 10, 7.30pm) – a drama about a young seamstress who inherits her Grandmother’s dressmaking shop.
- A Silent Voice (Saturday 11, 5.15pm) – an anime film that addresses bullying and disability in a tale of guilt and atonement.
- A Sparkle of Life (Sunday 12, 6pm and Thursday 16, 8pm) – a heart-warming tale about widow who signing up to a matchmaking service, at the tender age of 77.
- The Wailing (Sunday 12, 8pm) - a chilling fantasy horror, suspicions of foul play arise when a mysterious sickness spreads through a village.
- The Mohican Comes Home (Monday 13, 8pm) – a dark comedy about a deadbeat rocker, his clumsy pregnant girlfriend, and terminally ill old-school father.
- Tsukiji Wonderland (Tuesday 14, 8pm) – a documentary about Tsukiji fish market which is known as “the kitchen of Japan”
- Your Name (Saturday 18, 5.45pm) – an anime fantasy drama about a connection between two strangers that find they are linked in a bizarre way.
The film week will be launched with a Japanese Sake tasting event in The Brewery’s Warehouse Café on Monday March 10, at 6pm, which will be hosted by an expert in the fiery spirit and accompanied by a mouth-watering selection of Japanese food.
Brewery film programmer Chris Ashton said: "We are delighted to be one of only 15 cinemas across the UK to be supporting Japanese Film Week as it demonstrates our commitment to provide a diverse and exciting specialist cinema offer for South Lakeland and beyond."
Tickets for all screenings are available from the Brewery Arts Centre box office.
