COMEDY returns to Barrow Cricket Club - and you could be the one to steal the show.

Alongside a line-up of highly-regarded stand-ups, the showcase night on Thursday April 13 also includes an open mic opportunity, with a £50 prize for the best joke or one-liner.

The club fundraising nights have been hugely popular over the past couple of years, and one of their regular guests is back on the line-up.

Cumbrian comic John Lebbon returns, back with more of his highly-relatable observational humour.

The Egremont-based rugby player-turned-stand-up is also a sports presenter on That's Manchester TV, but it is his comedy writing that has grabbed the attention - working with Phoenix Nights star Dave Spikey, and creating his own TV comedy short, Buzz Dish, as well as New Deal, which picked up an award at the Keswick Film Festival.

One of the most sought-after female comics currently performing in the UK will be joining him.

Nina Gilligan appeared in the final of the English Comedian Of The Year in 2016, and has won numerous awards since first taking to the stage six years ago.

Said to be a "bolshier Mrs Merton", she's not one to suffer fools lightly, as she makes full use of her razor-sharp wit in her observational comedy and storytelling.

An in-demand compere too, she has performed and hosted at many of the North West's best-known comedy clubs.

Ben Lawes completes the line-up. Taking inspiration from such greats as Morecambe and Wise and Tommy Cooper to his present day favourites such as Lee Mack, Sean Lock, and Tom Stade, his material displays a mixture of confidence, empathy and a sarcastic bitter twist on observational humour.

He made the final of the Frog and Bucket world series in 2008 - only his second ever time on a comedy stage - and in 2010 took his first show up to the Edinburgh Festival, alongside fellow comedian Rex Purnell.

Tickets priced £12.50 are available now, and all proceeds go towards the upkeep of Barrow Cricket Club. To purchase tickets or enter the open mic night, phone 01229 825201.
