TWANG returns to The Drawing Room, in Barrow, this week, with another highly-rated young indie rock band set to headline.

Leeds-based The Strawberries are the latest highly-regarded visiting act to headline the showcase night, following appearances by the likes of Horsebeach and The Blinders in recent months.

And it was an appearance alongside The Blinders that brought this week's visitors to Twang's attention - Andy Graham, one of the event's founders, says: "I went and watched them supporting The Blinders in Leeds, who we had in Barrow last year, and they blew me away.

"I met up with them straight after the gig to sort out a date for them to come here.

"This show continues our ethos of getting up-and-coming bands coming to Barrow on the gig circuit, in line with the rest of the country, and it gives an opportunity for people to come and see a top band for free."

In their three years together, The Strawberries have shared the stage with acts such as Blossoms, The Coral, The Courteeners and The Kooks.

Their sound touches upon indie, but draws heavily from rock 'n' roll, blues and psychedelic music, which has so far seen their recent singles, Laburnum House, Caramel Eyes, and Fantasy Machine all receive critical acclaim and radio airtime.

This latest show comes in the wake of Twang's successful first appearance at Ulverston's Another Fine Fest, curating the stage at the Rose & Crown, where a packed out courtyard was treated to performances from some of the best bands and artists on the Furness live scene.

"Myself and Malcolm (Lingard) were overwhelmed to see so many faces camped at our stage all day," says Andy.

"A combination of friends and new people we met on the day, both young and old, made the day for me, and to see the response the local artists got was exactly why we started doing this in the first place."

For this Friday's show, one of the stars of the festival, instrumental world jazz outfit Valparaíso, will provide the support.

Also this month, Twang announced that they would be welcoming one of the country's hottest prospects to Barrow later this year - renowned indie band Cabbage calling in at The Drawing Room on October 14, with tickets already sold out.

Andy adds: "Friday will be a chance for everyone who has bought a Cabbage ticket and never been to our nights to see exactly what the score is and hopefully have a belting time."

The Strawberries play at The Drawing Room on Friday from 8pm, with support from Valparaíso. Entrance is free.
