THE first-ever Globestonbury takes place in South Cumbria this weekend.

The all-afternoon party at The Globe, in Ulverston, sees bands and solo artists performing live in the pub's beer garden on Saturday September 3.

Barrow four-piece The Mooncats make the short trip down the A590 to headline, having played in the town a number of times since returning to action in 2014, including the past two Another Fine Fest events.

The established line-up of frontman Ian Curwen, bassist Jordan Emms, guitarist Phil Turner and Pablo Williams on drums will run through their best-known numbers, including Tight Top Terry and Bang Bang.

Their stint in the limelight first time around was surprisingly short – having only formed properly in 2007 and bowing out in 2010 with a support slot for indie favourites Twisted Wheel – but they have maintained a strong following across Furness.

They are joined at the Globe by young local indie outfit The Twitchers, playing their accomplished originals, which give a nod to the likes of Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, and Oasis.

Tracks from their pair of EPs, which have been championed by the BBC Introducing programme, will feature in the set.

Broughton-based acoustic duo The Next Stop have been playing across the region throughout the summer, and here they perform a mixture of eclectic covers and originals.

Solo acoustic performers Hayden Barlow and Jonny Crabbe are the other acts set to appear, with more names likely to be confirmed ahead of the weekend.

Music runs from 4pm until 10pm, and entrance is free.
