INSTRUMENTAL folk duo The Hut People will be performing live in the Lake District this month.

Sam Pirt and Gary Hammond bring their show to the Browfoot Room, in Ulpha, on Saturday May 20.

Having firmly established themselves as one of the most unique and best-loved acts on the UK folk scene, they recently released their fourth studio album, Routes, via Cumbrian label Fellside Records.

Mixing global rhythms with folk tunes from Quebec to Spain, Scandinavia to Sussex and everywhere in between, this is a quirky celebration of our rich musical heritage.

Expect feel-good dancing tunes, audience participation, step dancing, Quebecois foot-percussion and humour aplenty.

Both musicians have extensive backgrounds in the industry, having been part of and performed alongside legendary acts such as The Beautiful South, Nina Simone, The Dubliners and Sharon Shannon, their playing is still very much in high demand.

Festival favourites, they are the only band to be invited back to the Swaledale Folk Festival eight times, and through their connection to Fellside Records, they also played at last year's one-off festival in Keswick, Route 66.

In Ulpha they will be playing from their new record, as well as their three previous releases.

The show in Ulpha on Saturday 20 starts at 8.15pm, and tickets are available on the door or in advance from Ulpha Post Office and Broughton Information Centre.

  • The show is a late replacement for Cera Impala, who had previously been announced to appear at Browfoot on the same date.
