ULVERSTON musical all-rounder Ben Lewis will be starring in a series of shows this summer to support The Alzheimer's Society.

The 18-year-old performer brings his Tonight show to Scales Malt Kiln on Saturday August 13, before moving to Grange's Victoria Hall on Saturday September 3 and ending at The Laurel & Hardy Museum, in Ulverston, on Friday September 9.

Proceeds will also go towards helping the youngster progress to drama school later this year.

Ben is no stranger to the local stage, having been involved with the local amateur dramatics scene since the age of eight, and on a wider scale, he is a member of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain, following in the footsteps of alumni such as Daniel Craig and Dame Helen Mirren.

Recently, he has staged several fundraising concerts - including his acclaimed show Puttin' On The Ritz, which was performed to a sell-out crowd at the Coronation Hall and raised more than £3,000 for charity.

He will be going to study at Guildford School of Acting in September and so the three Tonight shows will be his last public performances in the area before his three years of training.

Ben says: "Performance has always been a real passion of mine so the thing I'm most looking forward to is just getting up onstage and hopefully being able to give something that audiences will enjoy by doing what I love best.

"My main hope for the shows is that whoever is in the audience has a fun night, hear some new songs that they enjoy as well as some old favourites - and for myself, I just wanted to do something big before going away in September.

"The Alzheimer's Society is a charity that one of my closest friends is currently trying to raise awareness for and, knowing the huge impact the charity has on so many people's lives, I decided to try and help out in my own small way with a bucket collection."

Tonight will feature a whole host of songs from the most iconic musicals of the 20th and 21st Century - classics from the likes of My Fair Lady and Carousel will be performed by the teen vocalist alongside modern hits from shows such as Shrek the Musical and Matilda. The programme truly features something for all the family.

"The theme is essentially musicals which have meant something to me or influenced me since I started performing over 10 years ago," says Ben.

"There have been loads, so the choice was difficult.

"I've performed at all three venues before for different things, whether it be amateur shows or my own concerts - I selected them for these shows so as to attract three very different audiences who will, I hope, all be reached in some way by the musical theatre songs I perform."

All performances start at 7.30pm, and tickets priced £7 can be booked in advance by emailing benlewistonight2016@outlook.com or phoning 07718989915.
