IT'S a Super Sunday this weekend, which more often than not means a headline show at The Nines for indie rock band The Dales.

The Barrovian favourites lead the bank holiday line-up at the Dalkeith Street venue once again, this time joined by young rock trio Serene.

Well-established five-piece outfit The Dales have been one of the town's best-known names for the past six years, topping the bill at many of the area's festivals and all-dayers.

The revolving line-up has found some stability, with frontman Adam Kendall, guitarists Rory Swierkocki and Elliot Allan, bassist Kean Waddington and drummer Ste Philips having now performed together for the past 18 months.

While there are always new additions to their repertoire, their indie-heavy set-list often includes tracks from the likes of The Killers, Stone Roses, Stereophonics, Oasis, James, Kasabian and the Arctic Monkeys.

Serene have stepped up to become one of the area's leading rock bands over the past year. The young trio have played a series of out-of-town shows of late, as well as impressing with some local festival appearances.

Having released a series of singles so far, showcasing their eclectic and psychedelic sounds, they are now gearing up to their debut album, expected some time this summer.

The show on Sunday gets under way at 8pm, and tickets are available in advance from the venue.
