A CUMBRIAN storyteller is calling on Furness locals to share their tales of the region.

Cumbrian Songs and Stories is a theatre show by West Cumbria-based musician and storyteller Steve Wharton.

Initially developed as a one-man show for HF Holidays and subsequently performed in holiday cottages and at festivals, audiences are taken on a cultural tour of Cumbria through a collection of traditional and original songs, poems, stories and dialect pieces.

The show is a mix of live music, open mic, theatre and storytelling, with a performance of traditional and original songs, stories and poems about the beautiful, rugged, mysterious Lake District, its people and surroundings.

Steve is joined on stage by fiddle player Ryan Wood and singer Katie Gentry. He is now offering open floor spots at a forthcoming performance at The Forum on Friday February 17 for performers of material related to the county.

Your performance can be anything, from a song, story, poem, joke, dance, or a memory - the only stipulations are that it must be about Cumbria, ideally a specific place in it but countywide material will be considered. It also must come in at a maximum of three minutes.

If you'd like to be considered for a spot performing your own Cumbrian party piece, contact Steve via the www.cumbriansongs.co.uk website. Soloists and groups are welcome to apply.

You can catch a free Christmas version of Cumbrian Songs and Stories , starting at 7pm on Saturday December 10 at The Queens Arms, in Biggar Village.

Steve is also appearing at Gleaston Village Hall on Thursday December 29 with a mix of originals, folk songs and covers.
