THE Royal Opera House's production of Tosca can be seen in cinemas across Cumbria this February.

Experience Puccini’s classic thriller screened live in Ambleside, Barrow, Carlisle, Cockermouth, Kendal, Keswick, and Penrith on Wednesday 7, at 7.15pm.

One of the all-time great operas, Tosca combines drama, passion and glorious music. Instantly recognisable music from Tosca has been used countless times in film and television, most memorably as the soundtrack to an action scene in James Bond thriller Quantum of Solace.

Set in Rome, the story follows painter Mario Cavaradossi who is captured and sentenced to death by Scarpia, the sadistic Chief of Police. Mario’s life can be saved and his freedom granted providing, his lover, Tosca, gives herself to Scarpia.

This production is conducted by Dan Ettinger and stars the Canadian soprano Adrianne Pieczonka as Tosca.

Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja sings the role of Cavaradossi, alongside Canadian bass-baritone Gerald Finley, singing the role of Scarpia.

The performance lasts three hours and includes two intervals which feature exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the cast and creative team.

The Royal Opera House leads the way in providing world-class opera and ballet both to cinemas and a variety of digital platforms.

Broadcasting to 40 countries, more than 800,000 people worldwide saw a Royal Opera House production in their local cinema during the 2016/17 season.

Its broadcast of The Nutcracker in December 2016, topped the UK box office figures with over 70,000 attending a screening of the production.

Tosca is sung in Italian with English surtitles.

The screenings take place simultaneously at 7.15pm on Wednesday 7, at Zeffirellis in Ambleside, Vue Cinemas in Barrow and Carlisle, The Kirkgate Centre in Cockermouth, the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal, Alhambra Cinemas in Keswick and Penrith, and at the Rheged Centre.
