A RETROSPECTIVE exhibition acknowledging and celebrating the lifetime's work of Cumbrian Folk artist Peter Hodgson.
Through the lens of Peter’s work, the exhibition at The Coniston Institute explores the relationship between folk and contemporary art and design, whilst drawing on the heritage of the Institute itself.
Peter works from his Ambleside studio and shop, Hide and Horn, and he has forged strong collaborative links with Coniston Institute, selling his wares through Coniston Honest Shop, and with Grizedale Arts.
He has also collaborated and co-produced with contemporary artists and designers, including Maria Benjamin, Karen Guthrie, Tom Philipson, Juneau Projects, Turner Prize winner Laure Provoust, An Endless Supply, Graham Taylor, and Adam Sutherland.
The exhibition, Making, A Life, will present Hodgson’s independently developed back catalogue, his co-productions, as well as Hodgson and his collaborators’ responses to one another’s creative endeavours.
New artists will be introduced to Peter’s collaborative network, including Joseph James Hartley and Fernando Garcia Dory.
Works in diverse mediums will form a multi-media installation, including ceramics, leather, horn, textiles, wood, print-making, writing and film.
Making, A Life will be on show at The Coniston Institute, in Yewdale Road, Coniston, from Thursday October 26 to Sunday November 19, with a launch event taking place on Saturday October 28, at 1pm, which will include workshops, a book signing and high tea.
