VINTAGE festival Retro Rendezvous is set to return this summer, with special events taking place over four days.

The Ulverston event, which also incorporates the Velo Retro cycling festival, takes over the town from Friday July 14 to Sunday 16, with live performances, markets and gatherings of vintage enthusiasts.

Music, food, dance, cinema, clothes, cars, motorcycles, drink and the famous old school cycling event have made up this festival for the past two years, and this summer's programme is bigger than ever.

Velo Retro runs for the duration of the event. Having preceded the main festival by one year, this is now a welcome fixture for everyone from families to hardened bike-riding professionals.

The easiest ride is called La Loafeur, which is 47km and aimed at people who aren’t regular riders. À L’ancienne Classic is a more intermediate ride at 85km, with a checkpoint at the Sir John Barrow Monument. The Mighty Corinthian is a whopping 300km, which is the longest retro bike ride in the world.

The opening night is the big live music performance: Jackson Sloan and the Rhythmtones headline at the Coronation Hall.

The veteran frontman has built up a reputation as an exceptionally talented and gifted vocalist, and here he is joined by his live act The Rhythmtones.

After recording his solo album four years ago, Sloan put together a new live band, and their acclaimed live set covers all bases, from blues, R&B, and rock 'n' roll, to boogie woogie and jive.

This is a ticketed event and tickets are available from the Coronation Hall.

Throughout the Saturday, on the outdoor Brogden Street stage, music runs from 10am to 4pm, and there will be appearances from Pete's Record Hop, Dalton band The Prophets, acoustic pair Fuse Duo, Mark Cumberland as Elvis, and 1920s-inspired act Blue Heaven Jump Band.

An event at the Roxy cinema on the Saturday night is based around a screening of the hit musical film Cabaret, and also sees the Blue Heaven Jump Band return, and cocktails being served. Tickets are available from the cinema's box office.

The final day also has music in Brogden Street, with Pete's Record Hop getting things under way once more, and a live performance from Dave Watson and Friends in Market Street.

An exciting showcase of classic cars runs throughout the whole weekend in New Market Street and Theatre Street car park, and the vintage marketplace will be in place through the streets and in the Coronation Hall, with the Vintage Tearoom also returning for the event.
