SOUTH Cumbria's panto season draws to a close later this month with Goldilocks and the Three Bears taking to the Coronation Hall stage.

Ulverston Pantomime Society's annual production is back with familiar faces and another unique take on a classic tale.

The show follows the traditional story, but with a twist: Goldilocks and her family own Barnaby’s Circus, and travel around the towns – but on reaching Tumbledown, the evil Baron Von Trappem plans to steal all the circus animals for his zoo.

Goldilocks comes across the Three Bears to find they have a talent and incorporates them into the circus, and along the way she meets Antonio the Romany Prince and falls in love.

Will the circus manage to overcome the Evil Baron’s plans and can the Three Bears save the day?

Society regular Helen Day takes the lead role of Goldilocks, with Martin Craig playing her brother, Barney Barnaby, and Bob Needham reprising his role as panto dame, playing their mother, Ma Barnaby.

Other well-known performers include: Peter Buckley, as Mayor Zeedotes of Tumbledown; Sue Little as the Mayor's daughter, Penelope Zeedotes; Nicky Diggle as Antonio, the Romany prince; and Carole Leech playing the kindly storyteller Romany Rose.

Baron Von Trappem is played by Steve Low, and his accomplices are Denise King and Steve Thompson as Dunn and Dusted.

Of course, that's not forgetting the Three Bears, who are Dave Mossop as Father Bear, Kim Little as Mother Bear, and Gail Low as Baby Bear.

Elaine Parkinson is the producer, and Paul Dryden is musical director, with Denise King taking on the role of choreographer this year.

Rehearsals began in October as they plan to bring another hit production, with traditional panto songs and the Society's trademark humour.

The show runs at the Coronation Hall from Wednesday January 25 to Saturday 28, at 7pm, with a 2pm matinee also on the Saturday.

Tickets are available from the venue's box office.
