A COLLABORATIVE exhibition between two local artists will be on display in Ulverston from next week.

Escapism is the title of a new showcase of paintings, opening at Natterjacks on Monday June 19.

Local pair Hazel Curtis and Chrissie Montague have collaborated under the name of Montague Curtis, having been painting together for three years.

They have developed a style inspired by the St Ives school and naive style of Mary Fedden, along with the beautiful Cumbrian land and seascapes.

Many people find it hard to understand how they work together without coming to blows, especially when they work on a canvas at the same time.

Chrissie says that both artists have very different approaches to their artworks, which makes each piece and exciting surprise, and in some ways a miracle anything is produced.

She adds: "Preparing for this exhibition has certainly pushed us to further develop our joint style.

"We are excited to be exhibiting at such a prime space - (Natterjacks owner) Valerie Madden is doing an amazing job of promoting local art."

The exhibition space at Natterjacks, in Queen Street, allows visitors to browse the artworks and enjoy a glass of wine in the evening.

Escapism is open from Monday June 19 to Friday July 21, from 3pm to 10pm, Monday to Friday.
