TICKETS still remain for next week's outdoor production of The Emperor's New Clothes, in Coniston.

Brantwood’s second outdoor theatre event of the year sees the ever-popular touring company Illyria return with the classic Hans Christian Andersen tale on Tuesday August 22.

The performances take place in Brantwood’s scenic lakeside meadow overlooking Coniston Water and the fells, providing a spectacular back-drop for Illyria’s stage.

Terrace Café chef Ben Willan will be preparing some pre-theatre food for the event, and drinks will also be available before and during the performance.

Based on the timeless Hans Christian Andersen story, Illyria first performed this show in 2000 when it was Critic's choice at the Edinburgh Fringe festival and attracted multiple five-star reviews on a sell-out UK tour.

The Emperor is a lovely man, but he’s not the best judge of character, and is often surrounded by idiots. What keeps him sane is the monthly Grand Parade at which he wears his newest outfit.

When two swindlers spin a yarn and everyone is taken in, what price will he have to pay? Will the new clothes they make really enable him to weed out the idiots in his palace? Or will he end up losing his crown jewels?

Now in their 26th season they return with one of the most famous cautionary tales ever told.

There are larger-than-life characters, lots of audience participation, and an ending that promises to leave audiences "helpless with laughter".

The organisers are also at pains to point out there is no nudity in the production - although one of the actors may be a little chilly.

The show is recommended for children aged five and upwards.

Gates open at 6pm and the performance starts at 7pm, and audiences are advised to take their own seating or rug.

Tickets are available from the venue, or online at www.illyria.uk.com
