A FAMILY feast of entertainment and fun activity is being cooked up in August to mark a big day in the history of the Coronation Hall.

Coro All will celebrate transferring the running of the Ulverston venue and markets to Ulverston Community Enterprises.

Taking place from Wednesday August 17 to Sunday 21, daytime attractions will range from a roller-disco, puppet shows, singing lessons and yoga workshops to craft demos, a climbing wall, face-painting, and the Great Coro Cake Off competition.

The Coronation Hall will be looking into the past, with Victory in Ulverston recalling wartime memories with jive workshops, a tea dance, memorabilia and vintage stalls.

The best music being made in and around Ulverston will be in the spotlight for a local Battle of the Bands on Friday 19, with demo submissions invited now. Deatbeats are also organising a drumming and facepainting workshop on Saturday 20 as part of the festivities, and the Coro will be looking into the future and beyond with Geek Fest, delving into the world of space, fantasy and comic books. There will be the chance to play classic console computer games, browse the stalls, learn about anime in a dedicated workshop, and visitors are being encouraged to come in their favourite movie or comic book character outfit.

Ulverston Community Enterprises chief executive Charlie Rowley said: “The aim is to encourage regular users of the hall to try something different, and to encourage people who rarely use the Coronation Hall to try it on for size.

“The emphasis is very much on local events for local people, with the Battle of the Bands and a gala concert on Saturday featuring one of our local stars, Ben Lewis, and friends. But we are also bringing in talent from outside the area – such as a puppet theatre group from Manchester – and trying to organise something for every age group.

“The Coro has been part of Ulverston life for generations of people and we are inviting them to share their memories and reminiscences with us through the Coro All Facebook page.

“They say you can’t please all of the people all of the time – but we are giving it a shot. We are confident that we will see regular users and lots of new faces all helping to enjoy the Coro as the heart of our community.”

The full range of events and updates can be found on the Coro All Facebook page, and will also appear on the Coronation Hall website www.corohall.co.uk
