THE 12-hour music event Noon 'Til Midnight will be returning to Walney next weekend.

The Queens Arms, in Biggar Village, has been hosting the annual event since 2011, showcasing more than 20 acts, each with a half-hour set.

It is a concept based on the Icelandic music festival Aldrei fór ég Suður, which sees an extremely diverse line-up of acts take to the mic with no breaks in between and very little time spent on setting up.

It gives an improvised feel to the performances, and offers the prospect that anything could happen.

The first set takes place - as the name suggests - at noon on Saturday July 1, with local performer Just Jan getting things under way.

The rest of the day's bill features rock bands, jazz acts, singer-songwriters, and storytellers, with the likes of Terry & Friends, Ian Honeyman, Fuse, Zac Whittle and Chrissie and Co among the early guests to appear.

Mid-afternoon should feature solo artists Moran Gutan, Billy Hogan and Phil Collier, with well-regarded acoustic duo Paper Cranes and psychedelic rockers Serene also performing.

As the show moves into the early evening, the likes of The Noise Club, Louis Kelly, The Hairy Buskers, and Jamie Bosanko play live, with returning favourite Jordan Gaffney, pub landlord Julie Westwood, teenage acoustic act Jack Hayes, and well-known performers Robbie Jay Coplen and Zac Thompson each appearing.

As darkness descends there will be performances from Kate Oates, 52 Kings and world jazz outfit Valparaíso, while there are still a handful of acts still to be confirmed.

In previous years, the final hour of the event – from 11pm to midnight – has been dedicated to a big jam session featuring musicians that have appeared throughout the day.

Entrance is free and dogs are welcome at the outdoor event.
