CUMBRIA'S first-ever Easter pantomime comes to the Coronation Hall this April.

The Ulverston venue welcomes Rapunzel for seven performances, featuring well-known local performers among the cast.

This adaptation of the famous fairytale is set in the village of Old Ulverstonia, where several years before Rapunzel’s 18th birthday, Horbella the witch places a curse upon her mother, the Queen, so that when she becomes an adult, she will be captured and held hostage.

On the big day, she is greeted by Prince Benjamin of Barrow. Just as the celebrations begin they are frozen and Horbella does indeed Capture Rapunzel and take her up to her castle in the forest, where she uses Rapunzel’s tears for her own everlasting beauty.

With Rapunzel locked up in the castle, under the guidance the saviour - Fairy Kind Hart - Queen Penelope, Chester the Jester and the prince scour the land to ensure the safe return of Rapunzel.

While searching the forest, the prince notices the witch climb up the cast via a long golden stairway - Rapunzel’s hair - breaking the curse set by Horbella with true loves kiss.

This brand new pantomime adventure features glittering sets and costumes, and a laugh-a-minute script.

Paige Cook takes the title role, with Lisa Hart as Fairy Kind Hart, Yvonne Patterson as Horbella, Danny Matthews as Chester the Jester, Robert Squire taking the panto dame role of Queen Penelope Pepperpot, and Joe Purdy as the prince.

It is Joe's production company that is staging this unique show, and he recently headed up an open audition at the venue to select a cast of 24 local children to appear in the production.

Rapunzel runs from Friday April 14 to Wednesday 19, with shows at 1.30pm each day (except Sunday), and evening shows at 6.30pm on the Saturday and Tuesday.

Tickets are available from the venue's box office now.
