A CHARITY concert will also double up as a launch night for up-and-coming indie band The Sides' new single.

The highly-rated Barrow outfit headline the four-act bill at Cloud Nine on Friday October 27, alongside The Mooncats, Ukelear Fusion and Threefold.

The Halloween weekend gig will raise money for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity.

Talented young five-piece The Sides formed in 2015, but made their big breakthrough with a headline set at The Nines in February to release their debut EP, Hesitate - where they played to a packed-out audience.

Now they return to the newly-renamed Dalkeith Street venue on the launch night of their latest single, Colour of the Night.

Guitarist Dean Worrall says: "We're very excited for everyone to hear it - it's certainly the best produced and best sounding song we've recorded so far.

"There was a lot more time and thought put into the recording process, which has definitely shown in the finished product.

"We are really looking forward to the show; we played recently at Cloud Nine for a charity event, and to be asked again to play this one is fantastic."

The Sides, completed by vocalist Macaulay Murray, guitarist James Devitt, bassist Jordan Wilkinson, and drummer Tom Malkin, have had a big year so far, which also saw them put out another well-received single in the summer - Locked Up Love - among a busy gigging schedule.

Dean continues: "We've played many shows this year, with a few local festivals and things, and a few standing out such as Croft Rock and various Nines shows.

"But the main highlight for us as a band would be the session we did last week for Radio Cumbria - we were asked to travel up to Carlisle and perform three original songs, which were recorded live, followed by an interview, and we'd like to thank (presenter) Tom Salmon for inviting us along.

"We don't have anything booked yet for 2018 but it will just be a case of pushing for more songs and playing more gigs and hopefully some out of the area."

The Mooncats are much more experienced by comparison, and the fans' favourites will be a popular inclusion on the line-up.

The four-piece pioneers of "Barrow grime" have been around for more than a decade, re-forming after a four-year absence in 2014.

Frontman Ian Curwen, bassist Jordan Emms, guitarist Phil Turner and Pablo Williams on drums will be playing a set of their best-known tracks at Cloud Nine, including Tight Top Terry and Bang Bang.

Ukulele-driven covers act Ukelear Fusion are always a welcome addition, taking on rock, pop and punk tracks from the likes of Men at Work, Weezer, and Reel Big Fish, as well as a few additions of their own.

Male vocal trio Threefold - comprising Kev Thompson, Jamie Broome and Ade White - perform some of the biggest hits from the world’s best-known artists throughout the decades.

Alongside the entertainment, there will be a charity auction.

Doors open at 7pm, and tickets priced £5, as well as VIP packages, are available from the venue.
