A NAVAL tale combining folk music and theatre will be heading to Cumbria this February, featuring at the Theatre by the Lake over two nights.

Inspired by tales of naval veterans, Narvik tells the story of a Liverpudlian man and a Norwegian woman pulled together and torn apart by war as the events of one summer cause ripples across an ocean of time.

The show, coming to the Keswick venue on Wednesday February 8 and Thursday 9, fuses live music and new writing to create a patchwork of memory and dream.

Narvik is a bold new play set during the Second World War that brings to life a powerful story of love, guilt, heroism and betrayal.

In present day Liverpool, all alone, an old man falls in a basement and loses consciousness.

Back in the Second World War, in Norway, a young sailor with a heart full of hope and courage falls in love.

Award-winning playwright Lizzie Nunnery explores her dual creative strands – writer and singer-songwriter – to conjure a play where music and words meet.

The show is produced by Box of Tricks, a Manchester-based theatre company that champions the next generation of playwrights, producing top quality new plays on local and national stages.

Seen as a launchpad for new talents, it commissions and develops bold and original new plays from the most exciting new voices, creating ambitious and heartfelt theatre that engages, challenges and entertains.

Narvik runs at 7.30pm both nights, and tickets are available from the Theatre by the Lake box office.
