THE greatest fictional detective has been starring on our TV screens of late, but now he is back on the Cumbrian stage.

The Singular Exploits of Sherlock Holmes arrives at the Beggar's Theatre, in Millom, on Thursday February 23, for a stirring adaptation of the Conan Doyle classics.

Acclaimed actor Jonathan Goodwin stars, as the great detective recounts highlights of his crime-busting career.

It also includes autobiographical snippets concerning his life and times, the adversaries he has faced and mysteries he has solved.

The show is an affectionate one-man homage to the famous detective, that includes quick costume changes, humour and audience participation.

This high-energy one-man show features a plethora of dashing heroes, villainous rogues and vintage thrills.

Don't Go Into The Cellar is the UK's only professional theatre company specialising in imaginative adaptations of Victorian chillers, thrillers and music hall.

Artistic director Jonathan Goodwin both writes and performs in each show, bringing a lifelong love of Victorian detective, ghost and horror stories to the fore.

The company is based in the heart of the West Midlands, and the region has links with some of the greatest Victorian and Edwardian genre writers. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle began his career as a writer while practicing medicine in Birmingham and Fu Manchu's creator, Sax Rohmer, was born there, too.

The Singular Exploits of Sherlock starts at 7.30pm, and tickets are available from the Beggar's Theatre box office.
