AMBIENT pop artist Stevie Parker will be appearing in Cumbria later this year as part of the Get It Loud in Libraries programme.

The Bristol solo artist, who starred at Radio 1's Big Weekend last month, is set for an intimate live show at Kendal Library this September.

Her show follows in the wake of appearances at the venue by Meilyr Jones and Cate Le Bon last year, and recent dates at Barrow Library by Lucy Rose and The Staves, as the programme continues to bring established acts to South Cumbria.

Parker is influenced by the rock and electro genres, making for a heady experience. She is backed by a tight band with alluring synths and thrilling guitar lines, topped by her divine vocal harmonies.

This spring she launched her debut album, The Cure, following her first EP release last year.

Citing Amy Winehouse and PJ Harvey as influences on her music, the youngster has been lauded for the atmospheric and cinematic qualities in her music.

Combining pronounced, thudding electronic beats and resonant piano notes, her music has been likened to the XX, and her powerful and rueful vocals have drawn comparison to London Grammar's Hannah Reid.

Early in her career she opened for Aero Flynn and performed alongside Jessie J at the Bristol Summer Series 2015, eventually capturing the attention of BBC's Radio's emerging artist show Introducing in the West.

Having regularly been championed by the programme over the last couple of years, she was selected to appear on the BBC Introducing stage at the Big Weekend last month, alongside acts such as Declan McKenna and Zuzu.

Her date in Kendal arrives just weeks after internationally-renowned African performer Sinkane appears at Barrow Library.
