ACCLAIMED folk singer-songwriter Jess Morgan performs an intimate concert in the Lake District this weekend.

Ahead of the October release of her new album, the solo performer will be at the Browfoot Room, in Ulpha, on Saturday night.

A prolific writer and posterchild for do-it-yourself music, last summer's effort, The Bournemouth EP, led to vibrant acclaim and plays from national and international radio alike.

Morgan’s spirited, story-fuelled songs are anchored by warmth of delivery, with her easily distinguishable voice carried over the driving finger-style guitar playing.

In 2014, the full-length album Langa Langa attracted the ears of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Show, Bob Harris Sunday, BBC 6 Music, Folk Radio UK, R2, and Uncut, and the record was highlighted as one of The Telegraph’s Top 10 albums for Summer 2014.

This October will see the release of a confident new record from this young British voice. The upcoming tour takes the songs from Edison Gloriette on the road – bringing the songs and the stories behind them to life.

Over the past few years Jess has been making a noise in the UK and further afield with a string of albums comprised of acutely observed, beautifully delivered country-folk ballads. The songs are intimate, but not in that earnest, quiet way.

When not touring or writing songs, Jess has set up a small factory for producing home-made vinyl records which are hand made by Jess and will play on a turntable. Among the first to own and play Jess’s home-made 7” singles were BBC Folk Show DJ Mark Radcliffe, BBC Scotland’s Roddy Hart and BBC 6 Music’s Gideon Coe.

Saturday’s show starts at 8.15pm, and tickets are available on the door or in advance from Ulpha Post Office and Broughton Information Centre. A minibus will also be running in the evening between Broughton and Ulpha.
