PIEL Island will welcome three Lancashire acts for a special celebration later this month.

The Furness island's "King" Steve and "Queen" Sheila mark their 10th anniversary as landlords of the Ship Inn with live music on Friday August 18 and Saturday 19.

The first night will see acoustic performances from highly-rated teenage singer-songwriters Brooke Phipps and Mollie Jesson, each playing a mixture of covers and self-penned original tracks.

Saturday's main event features a performance from seven-piece pop rock outfit Rewired, bringing a rare full-band show to Piel.

Drummer Richard Beckwith says: "We're really looking forward to this and we feel extremely honoured and proud to be part of King Steve and Queen Sheila's 10th Anniversary celebrations.

"Piel Island is a gem, a really fantastic place and we can't wait to spend the weekend there, entertaining everyone - it's shaping up to be a brilliant weekend and definitely one to remember and not to be missed."

Hailing from Barnoldswick on the Yorkirshire-Lancashire border, Rewired have been an established name on the North West live scene for the past four years.

Richard is joined by guitarists Stephen Beckwith and Mike Whittingham, bassist John Hawthorn and saxophonist Roy Turner in providing the instrumentals, with Dawn Beckwith and Georgia Santina Di Vito sharing lead and backing vocal duties.

In their set of highly-accomplished covers, expect to hear tracks from the likes of Madness, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Thin Lizzy, Brian Ferry, T-Rex, Black Keys, Amy Winehouse, The Beatles and Plan B, among many others.

The ferry runs back and forth from Roa Island to Piel daily, between 11am and 5.30pm. Camping pitches must be pre-booked in advance by phoning 07516 453784.
