FRENCH rock band Jela will be making their debut in Ulverston with a live show at the Big Kings on Saturday February 11.

The highly-rated young trio, who have established themselves on the Manchester gig circuit in recent years, will be looking to impress on this rare visit to South Cumbria.

Starting out as a high school covers band in Uzès, South of France, back in 2011, they began writing their own material and turned professional a year later.

Since making the move across the English Channel in 2014, they have been touring and performing in and around the Manchester area, in Scotland, and the occasional visit back home.

Their many, many gigs in recent years have also included residencies at venues in Stockport, Buxton, Burnley and Bury, and a headline slot on a Manchester Music Festival showcase event in Montpellier.

The North West bands that they covered back in their school days - Oasis, The Beatles and The Smiths - have influenced their self-penned material that now makes up their live set, combining Manchester indie with French flair.

The trio - vocalist and guitarist Lucas Bernard, bassist Sam Artigau, and drummer Arthur Marechal - teamed up with veteran Manchester lyricist Dave Roberts early on in their career, which paved the way for their relocation.

The first single, No Longer Blind, was well received, and material since has showcased their full range of styles and influences, which touch upon folk, post-rock, blues and electronic music.

Expect a mixture of highly-accomplished indie rock originals and well-known covers when they appear at the Big Kings on Saturday February 11. The free show gets under way around 9pm.
