The 14th Century castle is said to be one of Britain's most haunted, and each year the Halloween Week programme is a highlight in the calendar.

The famous fireworks evening will take place on Sunday October 30, while the five other nights between Wednesday 26 and Monday 31 see the Hawk and Owl Centre’s Twilight Owls display - when the falconers fly a selection of beautiful owls in the gardens after dark in low-level lighting and with atmospheric music. Starting at 7pm, the display lasts approximately 30 minutes.

The Cannon firing at 6pm with Foppletwig the Genie-hunter gets the evenings under way, and the Muncaster Monster Cabaret brings continuous entertainment, including the Dragon Tamers show at 7.30pm, with the Scary Maze - not recommended for under 12s in the evenings - the Ghostly Grotto with spooky crafts, face-painting and spell and potion-making with the Black Monk and lots more, all included in general entry ticket prices.

There will also be "Arroween" archery with Independent Adventure at Muncaster throughout the week, with the Clip’n’Climb Wall on-site for the Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

The Halloween Ghost Tour, a theatrical event in the castle, has been newly-scripted again for 2016, and will run at set times through the evenings. Shows sell out every year so book early booking is advised.

The cafe will stay open later for food and drink plus on the final three nights, Evie’s Waffles, Big Pan Man Catering, Little Blue Pig and Georgian Farmhouse Mulled Wine, will all be in attendance.

General entry tickets for Halloween Week, castle ghost tours, and Halloween Twilight Owls Display tickets can all be purchased in advance, with a 10 per cent discount for booking online.

To make your Halloween experience even scarier, you can also book to stay on-site in the Coachman's Quarters B&B.
