TWO of Furness' best known live acts have headline sets at The Derby this weekend.

Paper Cranes and The Dales top the bill at the Barrow venue on Friday and Saturday night respectively.

Much-loved acoustic band Paper Cranes - who have been performing most recently as a trio - will be making a rare appearance as a four-piece.

Founder members Jon Dawes and Beckah Lloyd will be joined by Serene guitarist Kieran Day, and Valparaíso drummer Dan Payne.

Jon and Beckah, who perform their own folk-influenced tracks and stripped-back covers, have been playing all over the north of England and Scotland this summer, with a string of festival appearances.

Paper Cranes have firmly established themselves on the Cumbrian circuit since forming in 2012, supporting chart-topping acts such as Ocean Colour Scene and Nizlopi, and performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Their latest single, Lights, is due out next month, and is likely to feature in Friday's set.

They will be joined by solo artist Jack Hartley in support. Known for his work with bands such as Righteous Bees and Mission to the Watcher, he has also been playing his own material for around a decade.

Saturday night sees acclaimed indie covers band The Dales top the bill, returning to action with some new additions to the set.

While many of their live appearances these days are reserved for bank holiday specials and local festival dates, they continue to pack out every venue they play.

Following a string of line-up changes, frontman Adam Kendall, guitarists Rory Swierkocki and Elliot Allan, bassist Kean Waddington and drummer Ste Philips have become a tight-nit five-piece, known for their accomplished covers of tracks from the likes of The Killers, Stone Roses, Stereophonics, Oasis, James, Kasabian and the Arctic Monkeys.

Both shows get under way around 9pm and offer free entry.
