R'N'B icon Alexander O'Neal will be rolling back the years when he brings his live show to Barrow this April.

The 80s favourite, whose album Hearsay is regarded as one of the finest soul records of the era, performs at The Forum on Saturday 15.

The record, which contained hit singles Fake, Criticize, Never Knew Love Like This and The Lovers, spent more than two years in the UK album charts, selling more than 700,000 copies, going triple platinum.

His latest UK tour will celebrate 30 years since his most iconic album was released, and also coincides with his new autobiography, All True, Man.

This breathtakingly honest account of the singer’s life, reveals his struggles with racism, drugs and the fame that came with being one of the 80s top performers.

His solo career came after he had been recruited and then thrown out of a band by Prince.

In his three-decade career as a solo artist, O'Neal released 14 singles that entered the Top 40 charts in the UK, and he hasn't ruled out making a big come back with more new material to come.

A new album has been recorded with Manchester-based funk band, Mamma Freedom, who he worked with last summer on a re-recording of his 1987 hit single Fake.

This tour, with a nine piece backing band, is a payback to his fans in the UK, and features all the major hits and some lesser-known surprises.

The show on April 15 starts at 7.30pm, and tickets are available from the venue's box office.

  • Earlier in the day, he will be signing copies of All True, Man at WH Smith, in Portland Walk, Barrow. The event runs from 1pm,and for more details visit the store.
