RENOWNED British guitarist, singer and songwriter Martin Simpson is currently touring his 20th solo album, and will be visiting South Cumbria next month.

The most nominated musician in the history of the BBC Folk Awards appears at the Brewery Arts Centre, in Kendal, on Thursday November 2.

Last month, Simpson released his new record, Trails & Tribulations - his first new solo work since 2013’s widely praised Vagrant Stanzas.

The latest release is a collection of songs about nature, travels and real life stories, with a mixture of traditional songs, poems and contemporary songs by great writers.

Produced and engineered by Andy Bell, Trails & Tribulations features some of Martin’s most inventive playing yet, showcasing his virtuosity on a variety of instruments, including acoustic guitars, resonator guitars, Weissenbown lap steel guitar, electric guitars, five-string banjo, ukulele – and vocals.

Hand in hand with his long and storied solo career, Martin has worked with a dazzling array of artists from across the musical spectrum, including Jackson Browne, Martin Taylor, June Tabor, Richard Hawley, Bonnie Raitt, and Dom Flemons, to mention a few.

He has been touring extensively this year, including a headline set at Cambridge Folk Festival and London’s Kings Place, with this nationwide run wrapping up a busy year.

Martin Simpson appears at the Brewery Arts Centre on November 2, from 7.30pm, and tickets are available from the venue's box office.
