A HIP hop collaboration featuring acclaimed Barrow DJ Aim will release its first single this week.

The newly-formed duo MAIDM will give a flavour of their upcoming debut album with the launch of the two-track vinyl, featuring Tun Up Di Heat (Party Banger) and B-Boy S***, on ATIC Records this Friday.

Andy Turner, better known as Glastonbury-conquering musical pioneer Aim, and Lancashire-born Mikey D.O.N. have joined forces for this limited edition release, with more music expected from the pair in the spring.

Already a live favourite, Tun Up… embodies MAIDM and its precision manifesto, with its blend of head-down hip hop and funky, floor-filling accessibility. Its incendiary B-side track features Aim’s gritty, minimalistic production and Mikey’s hyper-aggressive vocals.

Producer Aim says: "I first met Mikey back in 2009 when he came up to my studio in Barrow to record vocals for Crowhead’s album.

"We hit it off. We were on the same page as far as hip hop goes, I loved his Krispy 3 stuff so naturally we talked about making some tracks together. As we got into it the whole thing took on a life of its own and it became obvious to us that the collaboration needed its own name and identity."

Aim made his breakthrough in the late 1990s on Manchester’s Grand Central Records, releasing the acclaimed albums Cold Water Music, Hinterland and Means of Production, along with a number of sought after 12"s.

Leaving in 2004 to set up his own label, ATIC Records, in Barrow, he went on to release the fourth Aim album, Flight 602, and toured extensively with his live band, selling out Shepherd’s Bush Empire and smashing Glastonbury along the way.

His most recent full album release came in 2015 in the shape of a collaboration with long-time friends and Long Island legends QNC over eleven classic hip hop tracks, entitled The Habit of a Lifetime (And How to Kick it).

Alongside his work with Mikey D.O.N., he is currently helping to produce and mix vocalist Niko’s upcoming third album, and is ready to start work on a new solo release.

Chorley MC Mikey D.O.N. has been DJ-ing since the early 1980s, as well as being a formidable part of break dancing crew Gravity Force, and rap trio Krispy 3 - the longest surviving rap group in the UK.

That outfit gained a massive following, owing to John Peel, Steve Lamacq and Jo Whiley sessions for BBC Radio 1, and gigs alongside Black Eyed Peas, Gangstarr, and Ultramagnetic MCs, to mention a few.

Collaborations with musical friends include people such as Roots Manuva, Katch 22, Ty, and IG Culture.

With this initial statement ready to be unleashed, MAIDM are now in the studio working on their debut album, which will be preceded by a second 10” single release early in 2018.

MAIDM release their debut single, Tun Up Di Heat (Party Banger) and B-Boy S*** on ATIC Records on Friday October 20. For full details, visit www.aticrecords.com
