THE first-ever Monster Live night will take place at the Laurel and Hardy Museum later this month.

Two live acts and a host of DJs feature on the line-up for this special event on Saturday September 30, following on from the successful Monster Monster events that have become well-established at the nearby Coronation Hall.

Headlining this debut show will be Captain Hotknives - an acoustic artist, who tackles subjects such as begging, solvent abuse, pigeon hypnosis, and the terrible quality of muffins on trains.

The Yorkshireman was a bassist in various bands until his mid-30s, before stepping up his solo output and recording a pair of albums in his attic at home.

Still occasionally found playing bass for Babar Luck, his own live shows take on the form of story-telling sessions, with hilarious improvised tales told over simple catchy riffs.

Lyons & La Zel will be the other live performers on the night. The talented duo have appeared in the town earlier this year at Another Fine Fest, and also feature in The Fire Beneath The Sea, who have also played in Ulverston on a number of occasions.

Consisting of soulful vocalist Léa La Zel and beatboxer, guitarist, rapper and flautist James Lyons, their music blends together elements of funk, soul, jazz and hip hop.

Providing the sounds between sets and into the early hours will be the Monster Monster and Homegrown DJs, bringing a multi-genre mash-up that will take in genres such as reggae, funk, disco, indie, house, breaks, drum 'n' bass, and more.

As with all Monster Monster events, there will be enhanced lighting, sound and visuals, to add to the experience.

Monster Live comes to the Laurel and Hardy Museum on Saturday September 30, from 9pm, and tickets are available from the venue. To book, phone 01229 582292.
