THE award-winning star of I, Daniel Blake will be returning to his more familiar role when he brings his stand-up show to Cumbria this summer.

Dave Johns shot to widespread fame with his critically-acclaimed performance in Ken Loach's 2016 movie, following more than 25 years as one of the most respected names on the UK comedy circuit.

The North East performer brings his live show to the Beggar's Theatre, in Millom, on Friday June 16.

A regular guest on comedy panel shows Never Mind The Buzzcocks and 8 Out Of 10 Cats in more recent years, he has been a stand-up comic since 1989 and is a regular headlining act at major comedy clubs in the UK and comedy festivals worldwide.

Johns has gained a reputation over the years as an inventive, exciting and extremely funny comedian, winning applause from his audiences, respect from his fellow comics and rave reviews from the critics.

He has had a number of successful runs at the Edinburgh Festival with his one-man shows and has also appeared regularly at the Kilkenny Comedy Festival in Ireland and Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal, as well as the Adelaide Fringe and Melbourne Comedy Festival in Australia.

Also a successful writer, the Newcastle comic has also contributed to The Omid Djalili Show, and his stage credits include an adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Shawshank Redemption, which opened in London’s West End in 2009.

He first visited the Beggar's Theatre five years ago, and has returned on a number of occasions with both his solo tour and as part of the All-Star Improv touring show.

Following his stint on the big screen, which saw I, Daniel Blake win the Palme D'or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, and Johns land awards at events such as the British Independent Film Awards, he is back in comedy mode with a new live show.

Tickets for the Millom date are available from the Beggar's Theatre box office.
