A COLLABORATIVE exhibition by two South Lakes artists has gone on display in the region.

Tim Leeson and Monica Metsers present Black & Blue at the Signature Gallery, in Kendal, having worked together on a number of exhibitions previously.

Monica used to curate Barrow artist Tim's early exhibitions at Dickie Doodles in the town, and they have great respect for each other's practice.

South Lakes Arts Collective founder Tim's work is very spontaneous and experimental and he works instinctively and quickly, while Monica's is highly constructed and controlled - surreal, yet also based on compositions of found objects - offering up an interesting contrast between them.

The title of the exhibition, on display until October 1, alludes to the darkness underpinning both of the artists' practices, but also literally, as they have selected work for this exhibition that fits within this limited colour palette.

Monica says: "Tim and I have been friends and have respected each other's work for several years now - I used to curate Tim's exhibitions in an exhibition space I used to run in Kendal called The Doodle Room.

"We both make unconventional work that is not typical of the Cumbrian area and are delighted to be able to show our contrasting yet complimentary styles together for the first time, in the town where we met."

Black & Blue is free to view during the Signature Gallery's regular opening hours.
