A FURNESS venue says goodbye to its function room with a charity music event this week.

Crooklands of Dalton will welcome a host of bands and solo artists on Friday August 26 for Barnardo's children's charity.

The evening show, Crooklands Calling 2: The Final Encounter, brings a close to the garden centre and restaurant's event space, which has staged a number of concerts and private functions in recent years.

The first instalment came in the spring, and this latest edition will see some of the area's favourite names performing.

Popular covers band The Dales will appear, performing indie classics and the latest hits, with The Killers, Stone Roses, Stereophonics, Oasis, James, Kasabian and The Arctic Monkeys all likely to make an appearance.

Collie Stewart and The Roomers played a packed out three-night residency at Crooklands over the Christmas period, and return with another set full of soulful rock covers and originals.

Shallow Waters, who play acoustic versions of tracks from The Eagles and The Beatles, have made an impression in 2016, appearing at a number of festival events, and Hayden Barlow from The Shapes is another young talent set to star on Friday with a solo acoustic set.

Vocalist Becki Fishwick, who has held vintage tea dances at Crooklands, will be back for a final performance of soul classics.

More acts are yet to be confirmed ahead of the event.

Music runs from 4pm, and there will also be giveaways, and fun and games throughout the evening.

Tickets are priced £4 each, with proceeds going to charity, and early booking is advised. Phone 01229 464225 to book.
