THE Sun Kings are back to reclaim their crown as one of Furness' leading live bands with their first appearance of 2017.

The Barrow quartet had their first gig at The Derby just over two years ago, and they return to the Dalton Road venue on Saturday March 4.

A whole new set-list has been in the works throughout the winter months, set for their first airing at this hometown date.

Guitarist Andy Milling says: "All of us are looking forward to getting back to gigging and seeing how the new material is received.

"The break has done us good and we're excited to get back out there with this new set-list.

"We love playing at The Derby, as it's Barrow's main music venue and you get a great crowd in there every week.

"We had a really busy summer last year and after a long run of gigs we all decided we needed a break. Since January we have been working on a complete new set and we will be performing 15 new covers, as well as a few old favourites from the old setlist."

Expect to hear tracks from the likes of Alanis Morissette, Ocean Colour Scene, Blondie, Tina Turner, The Rolling stones, Sheryl Crow, The Beatles, and Fleetwood Mac, all of which are among the new additions.

The line-up has remained the same since their first show, with singer Jo Ripley, bassist Scott Lawson and drummer Ben Caldwell completing the four-piece.

In the past two years, a series of impressive live appearances has seen them become a regular headliner and festival favourite, and 2017 is likely to further enhance their reputation.

"We have played some really good gigs in that two years and built up a strong following of all ages," adds Andy.

"This is something we set out to do originally when we picked a set-list ranging from the 60s through to the present day.

"We are still in the process of filling up the diary for the year but things are taking shape. We will be looking at hopefully getting involved with some of the local festivals over the summer and maybe a big show over the Christmas period."

For this comeback night, Wildfire frontman Jonny Regan will provide support with his solo acoustic set.

Music gets under way at 9pm, and entrance is free.
