A MUSICAL adaptation of children's picture book Room on the Broom will be performed on stage in South Cumbria this February.

The acclaimed Tall Stories theatre company brings its latest nationwide hit to The Forum, in Barrow, for four performances on Tuesday 7 and Wednesday 8.

The Witch and her cat are travelling on their broomstick when they pick up some hitch-hikers - a friendly dog, a beautiful green bird and a crazy frog.

But the broomstick’s not meant for five and it snaps in two - just as the hungry dragon appears.

The gang ultimately saves the witch from the terror, and in gratitude she rewards them with a magnificent new broom which has room for everyone.

The show promises songs, laughs and scary fun for children aged three and upwards.

This Olivier-nominated show, which has toured Britain and been performed around the world, is based on the classic picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

Tall Stories is renowned for bringing stories to life for audiences of all ages. The company was founded in 1997 by joint artistic directors Olivia Jacobs and Toby Mitchell, who have co-created all the company’s shows since then.

Its unique brand of physical storytelling theatre has toured from Cornwall to Aberdeen and from New York to Sydney, becoming internationally-recognised for its exciting blend of storytelling theatre, original music and laughter.

Room on the Broom has become known most recently for the Oscar-nominated film adaptation from the creators of the hugely successful The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo's Child, and narrated by Simon Pegg and an all star cast of Gillian Anderson, Rob Brydon, Martin Clunes, Sally Hawkins, Timothy Spall and David Walliams.

The stage adaptation opens on Tuesday February 7 at The Forum, with performances at 1.30pm and 5pm, and then runs the following day at 10.30am and 5pm.

Tickets are available from the venue's box office.
